Provenance

Where it came from

Rupture Spire was originally introduced in the Conflux expansion of Magic: The Gathering in 2009. The card was designed to function as a flexible land in multi-colored decks, providing a way to produce any color of mana at the cost of entering the battlefield tapped and requiring a mana payment to remain in play. Its inclusion in the 2011 Duel Decks: Ajani vs. Nicol Bolas provided a reprint that fit the thematic requirements of the Nicol Bolas deck, which utilized a wide variety of colors.

The artwork for this printing was provided by Aleksi Briclot. His design highlights the precarious and towering nature of the structure, emphasizing the magical energy radiating from its summit. The card is a common utility piece, appreciated by players for its ability to fix mana bases in budget-friendly decks, and it has remained a consistent element in various supplemental products due to its functional utility in limited formats.
