Sai, Master Thopterist

Sai, Master Thopterist was originally introduced as a mythic rare in the Core Set 2019 expansion for Magic: The Gathering. As a character, Sai is depicted as a brilliant but detached artificer from the plane of Kaladesh, known for his obsession with the construction of thopter constructs. The card was designed to incentivize artifact-heavy deck strategies, rewarding players for deploying low-cost artifacts by providing card advantage and an ever-growing army of flying mechanical allies.

The promotional version, designated as collector number 69p, features unique alternative art that highlights the intricate, clockwork aesthetic synonymous with the Kaladesh setting. This specific printing was distributed through Wizards of the Coast's organized play channels, intended as a reward for participants in various tournaments or promotional events. Like many cards from this era of Magic design, it received a favorable reception from players for its versatility in both Commander and competitive Constructed formats, solidifying its status as a staple for artifact synergy decks.
