Where it came from
Sakashima of a Thousand Faces first appeared in the Commander Legends set released in late 2020. Designed as a legendary creature with the partner ability, the card was conceptualized to facilitate complex deck-building strategies by allowing players to copy their other legendary creatures without triggering the legendary rule, effectively doubling powerful battlefield effects.
The card’s illustration was crafted by artist Jason Rainville, who aimed to capture the character's fluid, deceptive nature through a shifting, masked aesthetic. Within the Magic: The Gathering community, the card was immediately recognized for its high power level and versatility, becoming a staple in Commander formats and frequently appearing in 'The List'—a curated selection of reprints integrated into set boosters—to maintain availability for players.
