Samurai

The Samurai token was introduced as part of the 2022 Magic: The Gathering set, Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty. This set revisited the Kamigawa plane, reimagining its feudal, myth-inspired roots through the lens of a high-tech, cyberpunk aesthetic. The token was designed to accompany cards capable of creating Samurai creature tokens, specifically supporting the set's signature mechanics that emphasize combat prowess and disciplined unity among warriors.

The visual design of the token reflects the set's dual-identity theme, blending traditional Japanese armor silhouettes with neon accents and futuristic materials. Illustrated by the artist Livia Prima, the piece focuses on a stoic, masked figure that evokes a sense of both ancient honor and modern tactical efficiency. It was received positively by the player community for how effectively it translated the set’s broader art direction into a functional, thematic tabletop accessory.
