Where it came from
Sandstorm Salvager was released as part of the 2024 expansion The Big Score, a set centered on the high-stakes narrative of desert-bound scavengers navigating treacherous industrial ruins. The card was designed to anchor the 'Scrap-Gatherer' mechanic, rewarding players for interacting with discarded resources. Its inclusion in the set reflects the developer's move toward tactical resource management in the late-stage gameplay meta.
The artwork, rendered by digital illustrator Elena Vance, captures the gritty, sun-bleached aesthetic characteristic of the post-collapse setting. Vance utilized a desaturated color palette to emphasize the harsh environment of the scrap fields, a design choice that received positive feedback for its consistency with the established world-building. Critics noted that while the card's ability is highly specialized, its visual storytelling provides a compelling look into the lives of the world's civilian archetypes.
