Sanguine Sipper

Sanguine Sipper was released in 2022 as part of the Unfinity set, Wizards of the Coast's fourth expansion centered on the 'Un-' series of silver-bordered or novelty-themed Magic: The Gathering cards. Designed for a science-fiction amusement park setting, the card leans into the humorous, trope-heavy aesthetic of the set, specifically playing on the 'vampire at a diner' motif. It serves as a lighthearted commentary on classic horror iconography reimagined within the whimsical, space-age backdrop of Myra the Magnificent's Intergalactic Astrotorium of Fun.

The card’s illustration was created by artist Jeff Miracola, who utilized a vivid, illustrative style to capture the character's juxtaposition of vampiric menace and casual social interaction. The design focuses on the visual pun of the creature consuming a beverage through a straw, reflecting the set’s mission to blend traditional fantasy elements with retro-futuristic pulp sci-fi. Upon its debut, the card was received as a charming inclusion in the set's broader effort to explore 'top-down' design humor, often highlighted by players for its specific aesthetic commitment to the Unfinity theme.
