Where it came from
Sarevok's Tome was released in 2022 as part of the Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The set was designed to capture the lore and atmosphere of the Dungeons and Dragons source material, specifically focusing on the iconic characters and artifacts from the Baldur's Gate series. This artifact card represents a thematic link to Sarevok Anchev, a central antagonist from the original video games, providing players with a mechanical nod to his dark, calculating nature.
The artwork for this piece was crafted to evoke the aesthetic of an ancient, forbidden grimoire found deep within the Bhaalspawn saga. Designers worked to integrate the flavor of the Forgotten Realms setting into the rigid mechanics of a trading card game, ensuring that the illustration reflected the grim, scholarly essence of Sarevok’s background. Upon release, the set was noted for its successful blending of high-fantasy roleplaying elements with established card game archetypes, receiving praise from those invested in the franchise's deep storytelling history.
