Scalding Devil

Scalding Devil was released in 2012 as part of the Avacyn Restored expansion for Magic: The Gathering. As the third set in the Innistrad block, Avacyn Restored shifted the thematic focus toward the return of the archangel Avacyn and the hope brought to the gothic horror world. The card serves as a representative of the chaotic, fire-aligned creatures inhabiting the plane, designed to fit into the limited environment of the set's gameplay cycle.

The artwork was created by Erica Yang, who utilized a distinct style to capture the creature's aggressive and pyrotechnic nature. Like many common-rarity cards of the era, the design aimed to provide functional utility for draft and sealed play while contributing to the cohesive atmospheric world-building of the Innistrad plane, where supernatural entities often blend elements of classical folklore with visceral, elemental traits.
