Where it came from
Scattered Groves was released as part of the Star Trek Commander set for the Star Trek Customizable Card Game, a tabletop strategy experience published by Decipher, Inc. in the late 1990s. The card was designed to reflect the vast, unexplored, or mysterious regions of space often encountered by starship crews, serving as a tactical location card within the game's complex engine of movement and mission completion.
The artwork for this series was heavily influenced by the established visual aesthetic of the Star Trek franchise, focusing on atmospheric representations of nebulas and planetary systems to ground players in the setting. These cards were generally well-received by the dedicated player base of the time for their thematic accuracy, acting as a crucial bridge between the narrative elements of the television shows and the rigorous mechanics required for competitive tournament play.
