Scattered Groves

Scattered Groves was released in April 2017 as part of the Amonkhet expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The card was designed as part of a cycle of lands known as cycling dual lands, which were intended to provide mana fixing while offering a secondary utility through the cycling keyword, a mechanic that allows players to discard the card in exchange for drawing a new one. This dual functionality was crafted to stabilize gameplay in the mid-to-late stages of a match.

The artwork for the card was created by artist Christine Choi, who sought to capture the oppressive yet serene atmosphere of the desert plane of Amonkhet. By focusing on the sun-drenched, palm-filled oasis, the illustration reflects the set's central theme of a society built upon a harsh, unforgiving environment.
