Scion of Oona

Scion of Oona was introduced in the 2007 Magic: The Gathering set Lorwyn, a plane deeply inspired by Celtic mythology and folklore. As a Faerie Lord card, it was designed to support the set's tribal synergy themes, specifically rewarding players for building decks around the Faerie creature type. The set was noted for its distinct aesthetic shift toward autumnal, whimsical, and occasionally dark fairytale imagery, moving away from the more traditional high-fantasy look of previous years.

The card was illustrated by Nils Hamm, a frequent contributor to the game whose style is often characterized by ethereal lighting and organic, painterly textures. In depicting the Scion of Oona, Hamm focused on the mischievous and slightly unsettling nature of the Lorwyn Faeries, using a vibrant color palette to emphasize their supernatural origins.
