Where it came from
Scourge of Valkas was originally printed in the 2013 Magic: The Gathering set Magic 2014, designed as a powerful rare dragon to anchor tribal synergies. The creature reflects the classic high-fantasy aesthetic of the game, emphasizing the destructive nature of dragons through its triggered ability that deals damage based on the number of dragons on the battlefield. Its inclusion in later promotional sets and events underscores its status as an iconic staple in Commander format dragon-themed decks.
The MagicFest 2025 variant, numbered 14, represents the ongoing tradition of Wizards of the Coast releasing commemorative, limited-availability promotional cards to celebrate the global MagicFest tournament series. These versions often feature updated frames, unique art treatments, or special set symbols that distinguish them from original printings. This particular release serves as a sought-after collectible for players attending or participating in these high-profile community events, blending functional utility with celebratory scarcity.
