Where it came from
Seasoned Pyromancer was originally printed in the Modern Horizons set in 2019, designed as a versatile red creature capable of both card filtering and board presence. It quickly became a staple in competitive Modern formats, praised by players for its ability to smooth out draws while simultaneously generating value in the late game through its graveyard-based flashback ability.
The Double Masters 2022 printing, featuring the artwork by illustrator Greg Staples, serves as a high-end reprint of the card. Staples, known for his gritty and atmospheric style, captures the pyromancer in a dynamic, fiery pose that emphasizes the intensity of the character’s magic. The release was intended to provide players with a premium aesthetic version of a mechanically essential card, reflecting the set’s focus on reintroducing powerful staples with updated visual treatments.
