Secret Salvage

Secret Salvage was released in 2017 as part of the Aether Revolt expansion for Magic: The Gathering. Set in the steampunk-inspired plane of Kaladesh, the card reflects the world's thematic focus on invention and resourcefulness, where mages known as artificers scavenge discarded scrap to fuel their constructs. Its design was intended to offer graveyard utility for black-aligned decks, allowing players to retrieve cards that share a name, which serves as a mechanical nod to the set's emphasis on assembling complex apparatuses.

The card features illustration by Cliff Childs, who worked within the established visual language of the Kaladesh block to emphasize the jagged, metallic aesthetic of the setting. As a common-rarity sorcery, it was primarily utilized in limited formats like Draft and Sealed, where its ability to pull multiple copies of a single card from the graveyard could provide late-game card advantage. It is remembered by players as a functional utility piece that captures the inventive, slightly desperate energy of Kaladesh's underground inventors.
