Where it came from
Security Bypass was released in 2022 as part of the Streets of New Capenna expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The set draws heavy inspiration from the art deco aesthetic and the era of organized crime in early 20th-century America, casting players into a metropolis controlled by five warring demon-led families. This specific card represents the enchantment-based gameplay mechanics favored by the Obscura family, who specialize in espionage, information gathering, and tactical misdirection.
The card’s illustration was created by artist Daren Bader, who captures the clandestine, noir-inspired atmosphere of the city. The artwork depicts a figure infiltrating a secure area, perfectly encapsulating the card's ability to provide evasion and combat utility. Upon release, it was recognized by players as a versatile tool for aggressive strategies, particularly in Limited and Commander formats, where its capacity to grant both unblockability and incremental card advantage proved highly effective.
