Where it came from
Seedborn Muse was originally released in the 2003 Legions expansion, designed to capitalize on the mechanics of untapping permanents during an opponent's turn. This Secret Lair iteration, numbered 907, was released as part of the 'Artist Series: Johannes Voss' drop, celebrating the illustrator's distinct ethereal and soft-focused aesthetic. The design reimagines the creature as a serene, celestial guardian, marking a departure from the more visceral fantasy art often associated with the game’s earlier history.
Upon its release in 2021, this version was received warmly by collectors for its painterly quality and emotional resonance. Johannes Voss sought to convey a sense of quiet power through light and composition, moving away from traditional combat-oriented portrayals. The card has since become a staple for players who prioritize thematic consistency and artistic flair in their decks, cementing its place as a sought-after aesthetic variant within the wider Magic: The Gathering ecosystem.
