Where it came from
Seekers' Squire was originally introduced in the 2017 expansion Ixalan, designed as a common-rarity creature that showcased the explore mechanic. The card was intended to provide early-game stability for black-aligned decks, reflecting the flavor of explorers venturing into the perilous, uncharted jungles of the set's namesake plane. Its design focuses on the synergy between creature power and deck manipulation, allowing players to filter their libraries while bolstering their battlefield presence.
The Double Masters 2022 version, featuring collector number 87, serves as a premium reprint that revitalized the card's visual identity with updated art. Like the rest of the Double Masters 2022 set, this edition was crafted to cater to players interested in drafting high-powered environments and collectors seeking aesthetically distinct versions of existing staples. The illustration shifts focus toward the atmosphere of the adventure, emphasizing the thematic link between the card’s utility and the visual storytelling of Magic: The Gathering.
