Where it came from
Servant of the Scale was originally printed in the Dragons of Tarkir set in 2015, representing the Abzan Houses, a faction defined by their endurance and connection to dragon ancestry. It was brought into the Jumpstart 2022 collection as part of a curated experience designed to facilitate quick, accessible gameplay, allowing players to shuffle two thematic packets together for immediate play. This specific reprint features the illustration by Johannes Voss, who rendered the creature with a focus on the distinct, rugged aesthetic of the Tarkir plane.
The card functions as a low-cost, synergistic element within green creature-based strategies, specifically those revolving around +1/+1 counters. Johannes Voss's art was crafted to emphasize the protective, stoic nature of the servant, balancing the mechanical utility of the card with the thematic visual language of the Abzan. Upon its release, it became a recognized staple for players looking to bolster their counter-based decks, appreciated for its efficiency and its ability to distribute power across the battlefield upon its departure.
