Where it came from
Servo Exhibition was originally released as a promotional card for the Friday Night Magic program in 2017. These cards were distributed to local game stores as participation prizes, reflecting a period where Wizards of the Coast incentivized community-focused play by offering premium, alternate-art versions of cards that were already seeing success in the Standard format.
The artwork for this specific printing was illustrated by Magali Villeneuve, a renowned fantasy artist whose style is characterized by clean lines and evocative lighting. The design aims to capture the industrious nature of the Kaladesh plane, emphasizing the mechanical assembly of artifacts within the Magic: The Gathering universe. It was received favorably by players who appreciated the aesthetic shift toward art deco-inspired sci-fi fantasy.
