Where it came from
Settle the Wreckage was originally released as part of the Ixalan expansion for Magic: The Gathering in 2017. The card was designed as a high-impact white instant meant to provide control players with a potent answer to aggressive creature-based strategies. Its mechanics reflect a balance of power and drawback, exiling all attacking creatures while potentially accelerating the opponent's land count, a design choice intended to make the card a strategic consideration rather than a simple board wipe.
The Ixalan Promo version, identified by collector number 34p, was distributed through various organized play channels such as Friday Night Magic. Featuring artwork by Johannes Voss, the card employs a signature ethereal and dramatic style that emphasizes the chaotic displacement of the battlefield. It was well-received by players for both its competitive utility in Standard-format white control decks and its distinct aesthetic appeal compared to the standard set version.
