What it does

Whenever you cast your second spell each turn, choose target creature an opponent controls. If it's tapped, put a stun counter on it. Otherwise, tap it. (If a permanent with a stun counter would become untapped, remove one from it instead.)

Even when he missed the wrists, a pair of thundercuffs to the head got the job done.

Provenance

Where it came from

Shackle Slinger was released in 2024 as part of the Magic: The Gathering set Outlaws of Thunder Junction. The card was designed to fit the set's western-themed narrative, which centers on a group of villains gathering on a frontier plane to commit a massive heist. Mechanically, it utilizes the 'spree' keyword, a design choice intended to capture the feeling of versatile, tactical choices in a high-stakes outlaw shootout.

The card features artwork by illustrator Manuel Castañón, who crafted the visual style to emphasize the gritty, lawless atmosphere of the set. Within the game's competitive ecosystem, Shackle Slinger is noted for its utility in controlling the battlefield by tapping down opponent threats, reflecting the character's role as a bounty hunter or enforcer within the set's broader flavor of frontier justice.
