Where it came from
Shinewend was released in February 2008 as part of the Morningtide expansion for Magic: The Gathering. As the second set in the Lorwyn block, Morningtide focused on the concepts of tribal synergy and classes, introducing the elemental race known as the Wisps. The card was designed to highlight the Kithkin tribe's cooperative nature, providing players with a utility creature that could protect their forces by granting them protection from specific colors.
The card features artwork by Christopher Moeller, a prominent illustrator known for his dynamic and highly atmospheric work within the Magic: The Gathering franchise. Moeller’s design for the Wisps focused on ethereal, light-filled aesthetics that defined the Morningtide visual language. Upon its release, Shinewend was well-received by players for its efficiency in limited play and its tactical versatility within tribal-themed white decks, cementing its place as a reliable utility card during its competitive lifespan.
