Shivan Gorge

Shivan Gorge first appeared in the Urza's Saga expansion in 1998, depicting a harsh, volcanic canyon on the plane of Dominaria. The land card was designed to represent the volatile, scorched geography associated with the Shivan dragon roosts, providing players with a recurring source of non-combat damage in exchange for mana investment. This specific iteration hails from the Dominaria United Commander set, which sought to revisit iconic locations and themes from the game's deep history while integrating them into modern gameplay frameworks.

The art for this version continues the tradition of emphasizing the brutal, elemental nature of the Shivan landscape, utilizing the dramatic color palettes associated with Dominaria's volcanic regions. As a utility land, it is recognized for its niche role in Commander decks that benefit from incremental board pressure. It remains a functional piece of Magic: The Gathering lore, serving as a reminder of the foundational settings that helped define the game's early identity.
