Where it came from
Shrapnel Blast was originally released in the 2003 Mirrodin expansion, a set centered on an artificial plane made of metal. Designed by the Magic: The Gathering team to capture the visceral nature of the setting, the card rewards players for sacrificing their artifacts, mirroring the lore of the plane where metal is harvested and consumed to fuel war machines.
