Where it came from
Sigarda's Splendor was released in 2021 as part of the Innistrad: Midnight Hunt expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The card represents the angelic protector Sigarda, who serves as a symbol of hope and unity amidst the horror-themed setting of the Innistrad plane. Mechanically, the card was designed to support white-aligned enchantment strategies, rewarding players for maintaining a high life total and playing white spells, which aligns with Sigarda’s thematic role as a guardian of the remaining humans against the darkness.
The artwork for this card was illustrated by Johannes Voss, a long-standing contributor to the game known for his ethereal and painterly style. Voss captured Sigarda in a pose that emphasizes her divine authority and celestial grace, utilizing soft lighting and ornate details to distinguish her from the more gothic, shadowed aesthetic prevalent in the set. Upon its release, the card was received as a flavorful addition to the set, appreciated by collectors for its character-focused design and by players for its utility in Commander format decks.
