Where it came from
The Sigil of Valor was originally introduced in the Magic: The Gathering expansion Magic Origins in 2015. It was conceived as an equipment artifact that rewards aggressive, creature-heavy playstyles by granting a power boost proportional to the number of creatures a player controls. The design aims to capture the thematic essence of a rallying banner that empowers a battlefield force.
The specific version numbered 116z hails from the 2022 The Brothers' War expansion, which featured a special subset of cards known as Retro Artifacts. These cards were designed to pay homage to the aesthetic of the game's earliest printings, utilizing an iconic frame style from the 1990s. This iteration serves as both a functional reprint and a collectible piece intended to evoke nostalgia among veteran players.
