Skarrg, the Rage Pits

Skarrg, the Rage Pits was originally released in the 2006 expansion Guildpact, representing the brutal training grounds of the Gruul Clans within the Ravnica cityscape. The card was designed to mechanically reflect the clan's ethos of raw power and unbridled aggression, providing a utility land that allows creatures to gain trample and a power boost for a mana cost, effectively turning any creature into a significant threat during combat.

This specific iteration appeared in the 2013 Duel Decks: Heroes vs. Monsters set, which pitted iconic archetypal creatures against legendary heroes. The art, created by John Avon, utilizes his signature sweeping, painterly style to capture the jagged, volcanic architecture of the Gruul territory. It remains a staple of the card's history, valued by collectors for how successfully it translates the lore of a chaotic, subterranean fighting ring into a functional tabletop mechanic.
