Where it came from
Skirsdag Supplicant was released in the Jumpstart 2022 set for Magic: The Gathering, serving as a thematic nod to the dark, occult-focused lore of the Innistrad plane. The card depicts a devotee of the Skirsdag, a fanatical sect dedicated to the demon lord Griselbrand, reinforcing the set's goal of providing players with self-contained, synergistic tribal or mechanical archetypes.
The card's design emphasizes the aesthetic of high-fantasy horror, featuring art that highlights the grim and sacrificial nature of the cultists. Within the context of the Jumpstart product, which is designed to allow players to quickly shuffle two themed decks together for immediate play, this card functions as a utility piece intended to bolster black-aligned decks through its life-drain and sacrifice mechanics.
