Skycloud Expanse

Skycloud Expanse was released as part of the Magic: The Gathering Universes Beyond: Doctor Who set in October 2023. As a land card representing the vast and shifting atmospheric vistas often encountered during the Doctor's travels, it was designed to integrate the flavor of the series into the mechanical framework of the game. The artwork, commissioned by Wizards of the Coast, focuses on capturing the ethereal and expansive scale typical of the show’s sci-fi environments, serving as a functional piece of cardboard that mechanically supports the game's mana systems.

The card belongs to a series of land cards included in the Commander preconstructed decks themed around the long-running British science fiction program. These designs were created by various artists tasked with synthesizing the aesthetic language of Doctor Who with the artistic standards of Magic: The Gathering. Upon release, the set was received as a comprehensive tribute to the franchise, with collectors and players noting how the specific visual style of the lands helped establish an immersive atmosphere during gameplay, bridging the gap between the two distinct intellectual properties.
