Where it came from
Skyshroud Claim, a staple green sorcery in Magic: The Gathering, was originally released in the 2000 Tempest expansion. Its primary function is to search the library for two forest cards and place them onto the battlefield untapped, making it a powerful utility card in ramp-focused decks. The Secret Lair Drop version, numbered 2279, was released as part of the specialized, limited-run series that periodically reissues popular cards with unique, stylised artwork.
This specific iteration of the card features illustration by an artist commissioned to fit the aesthetic theme of the drop. These Secret Lair releases are designed to offer collectors and players visual alternatives to standard card frames, often leaning into surreal or highly atmospheric styles. Upon release, this version was received as a sought-after aesthetic upgrade, valued both for its gameplay utility and its distinct departure from the classic art associated with the card's history.
