Slash, the Dark Mirror

Slash, the Dark Mirror (number 14) is a standout entry in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Eternal Tokens card set, a collection designed to celebrate the rich history and complex adversaries of the long-running franchise. Released to capture the grit of the original comic incarnations alongside the vibrant aesthetics of the various animated series, the set serves as a curated retrospective of the series' character designs. Slash, an unstable mutant turtle created by an experiment gone wrong, represents the darker, anti-heroic side of the Ninja Turtles mythos, making his inclusion a thematic necessity for a set focused on the breadth of the universe.

The design of this specific token emphasizes the character's jagged silhouette and menacing spikes, drawing heavy influence from his debut in the 1987 animated series and subsequent reinventions in later iterations. The illustrators aimed to balance the character's chaotic, often destructive personality with a visual style that mimics the classic collector card format of the late twentieth century. By focusing on his feral, mirror-image nature, the card highlights the emotional and physical intensity that fans of the franchise have come to associate with his appearances throughout decades of comics and toys.
