Where it came from
Slaughter Pact was originally introduced in the 2007 Future Sight expansion for Magic: The Gathering, designed to explore the Pact cycle mechanic, which allows players to cast powerful spells without an immediate mana investment, provided they pay a significant cost during their next upkeep. The card exemplifies the high-risk, high-reward strategy common to the Black color identity within the game, forcing players to balance board control against the threat of losing the game if they cannot secure the required mana.
The Time Spiral Remastered version, released in 2021, features the iconic original illustration by Aleksi Briclot. Briclot's artwork is celebrated for its evocative, dark fantasy style, capturing the visceral nature of the spell as it eliminates a creature without a trace. This remastered printing was designed to curate the most beloved elements of the original Time Spiral block, providing both players and collectors with a premium, stylized frame that honors the game's rich mechanical history.
