Provenance

Where it came from

Sleeping Potion was originally printed as a common card in the 1994 Arabian Nights expansion for Magic: The Gathering, designed by Richard Garfield. Inspired by the folklore of the One Thousand and One Nights, the card was part of an early effort by Wizards of the Coast to anchor gameplay mechanics in recognizable literary archetypes. The illustration, created by artist Quinton Hoover, features his distinctively soft, romanticized linework that defined much of the game's early aesthetic.

The card was later included in 'The List', a curated selection of reprints integrated into Set Boosters starting in 2020. This initiative allowed Wizards of the Coast to reintroduce older, out-of-print cards into the modern ecosystem, preserving the history of early expansions for new players. By appearing as PLS-34, this version serves as both a functional tool in casual play and a nostalgic tribute to the visual language of the game's formative years.
