Provenance

Where it came from

The Sliver Army token was released in 2023 as part of the Commander Masters set, a premium expansion designed specifically for the Magic: The Gathering Commander format. Created by Wizards of the Coast to support the mechanics of the Sliver Swarm preconstructed deck, this token represents a creature type famous for its hive-mind synergy. Its inclusion acknowledges the enduring popularity of the Sliver tribe, which debuted in the 1997 Tempest set and has remained a fan favorite due to the unique way individual Slivers share abilities across the battlefield.

The art for this token was commissioned by Wizards of the Coast, continuing the tradition of depicting Slivers as highly adaptive, insectoid humanoids that evolve rapidly in response to their environment. The illustration aims to emphasize the overwhelming, swarming nature of the creature type as it appears in gameplay. The design reflects modern aesthetic standards for Magic tokens, prioritizing clarity and thematic cohesion to ensure it remains a functional tool for players managing complex board states during a Commander match.
