Snarling Warg was released in 2023 as part of the Magic: The Gathering set The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth. This expansion represented the first major integration of J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendarium into the game’s Universes Beyond series, aiming to translate the iconic landscapes and creatures of Middle-earth into the mechanics and aesthetic of Magic. The card serves as a common-rarity creature, designed to fill out the set's draft environment while grounding the player in the threats posed by the forces of Saruman.

The illustration was rendered by artist Tomas Duchek, whose work for the set focuses on capturing the visceral, predatory nature of the Warg.
