Where it came from
Snow Day was released in 2021 as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages set, designed to represent the academic culture of a magical university. The card depicts a moment of respite at the Strixhaven campus, reflecting the set's thematic focus on the intersection of scholarly life and arcane study. It functions as an instant-speed utility spell, allowing players to manipulate the battlefield through freezing effects and card selection.
The illustration was created by artist Igor Kieryluk, whose work frequently appears in Magic: The Gathering. Kieryluk’s design captures a whimsical, wintry atmosphere consistent with the high-fantasy aesthetic of the Silverquill and Prismari colleges. Upon release, the card was received as a versatile tool for blue-red control decks, valued by players for its ability to provide flexibility during fast-paced gameplay.
