Where it came from
Solar Array was released in 2024 as part of the Edge of Eternities Commander set for Magic: The Gathering. Designed as a high-utility artifact, it serves as a mana-ramping tool that scales in efficiency throughout the game. The card was developed to provide players with a flexible resource management option that rewards longer, more complex matches, reflecting the thematic emphasis on temporal and cosmic expansion central to the set's lore.
The visual design of the card, featuring artwork by Titus Lunter, emphasizes a sense of vast, celestial scale and arcane technology. Lunter utilized a palette of ethereal golds and deep voids to evoke the feeling of harvesting energy from distant stars. Upon its release, the card was widely noted by the Magic community for its tactical versatility, quickly becoming a staple in Commander decks focused on long-term resource building and artifact-based synergies.
