Where it came from
Spirit-Sister's Call was released as part of the Duskmourn: House of Horror Commander set in 2024. The card draws inspiration from the thematic landscape of Duskmourn, a plane designed as a meta-horror setting that functions as an endless, shifting house. As a resonant card within the set's graveyard-focused mechanics, it serves to represent the haunting nature of the plane, where spirits and lost souls are permanently woven into the architecture of the house.
The artwork for this card was created by artist Livia Prima. In line with the set's aesthetic, the illustration utilizes a vibrant, eerie color palette and dramatic lighting to evoke the feeling of 1980s horror cinema. The design intent was to capture the card's mechanical utility of recurring permanents from the graveyard while reinforcing the central narrative conceit of the set: that in Duskmourn, death is not an escape, but merely a change in state within the walls of the house.
