Spitting Earth

Spitting Earth was first released in the 2011 Duel Decks: Knights vs. Dragons set, a product line designed by Wizards of the Coast to offer ready-to-play, thematic decks that captured the classic fantasy trope of a conflict between heavy-armored warriors and powerful draconic beasts. This particular card was selected for the Dragons deck to provide players with a situational removal spell that scales in power based on the number of Mountains a player controls, reinforcing the deck's reliance on red mana.

The artwork for this printing was created by artist Jaime Jones, who sought to capture the visceral, elemental power of the earth reacting to the presence of a dragon. By utilizing a dramatic, low-angle perspective, the illustration highlights the card’s function as an eruptive force.
