Spore Frog

Spore Frog was released in 2000 as part of the Prophecy expansion for Magic: The Gathering. As a green creature card from the Mercadian Masques block, it was designed to interact with the graveyard mechanics prevalent in the set, offering players a low-cost utility creature capable of preventing combat damage to themselves. The design reflects the nature-themed, slightly eerie aesthetic of the set, which focused on the conflict between the subterranean dwellers and the surface inhabitants of the plane of Mercadia.

The artwork was created by fantasy illustrator Rebecca Guay, whose distinct, painterly style often utilized soft colors and ethereal compositions that stood out from the more rigid digital art appearing in the game at the time.
