Squee, the Immortal

Squee, the Immortal was released in 2018 as part of the Dominaria set, specifically appearing as a promotional card. The character Squee, a goblin who served under the crew of the Weatherlight, has been a recurring figure in Magic: The Gathering lore since the late 1990s. This iteration was designed to reflect the character's canonical immortality, providing a gameplay mechanic where the card returns from the graveyard to the battlefield or hand, mirroring the narrative struggle of a character who simply refuses to stay dead.

The card illustration was executed by Howard Lyon, who sought to capture Squee's frantic and resilient energy. The design was received favorably by players who appreciated the mechanical synergy between the flavor of an unkillable character and the card's graveyard-recursion abilities. The promo version specifically served as a collectible variant during the set's release season, often distributed through game stores to highlight the return of beloved characters to the game's ongoing storyline.
