Starnheim Memento

Starnheim Memento is a card featured in the Foundations Jumpstart expansion for Magic: The Gathering, released by Wizards of the Coast in late 2024. Designed to be accessible for new players while providing utility for established formats, the Foundations set focuses on core archetypes and themes that define the game's identity. The card draws its thematic inspiration from the plane of Kaldheim, a setting heavily influenced by Norse mythology and the concept of the afterlife, specifically the valkyrie-ruled realm of Starnheim.

The art and design of the card reflect the serene yet somber nature of a keepsake from a divine plane. Illustrators for the Foundations series were tasked with maintaining a balance between nostalgic callbacks to older Magic lore and a clean, modernized visual aesthetic intended to appeal to a broad contemporary audience. Upon its introduction, the card was noted by players for its efficient mana value and role-playing potential within white-aligned decks, fitting neatly into the set’s goal of providing foundational pieces for deck construction.
