Where it came from
Stoke the Flames was originally printed in the 2014 Magic: The Gathering set Magic 2015. This specific version was released as a Friday Night Magic promotional card in November 2014, distributed to participants of local game store tournaments to celebrate the community aspect of the game. The card features updated artwork by Dan Scott, who replaced the original illustrator, Kev Walker, to provide a fresh, alternative visual aesthetic for the promotional release.
The design of the card captures the essence of red-aligned gameplay, emphasizing direct damage through the 'convoke' mechanic. By allowing players to tap their creatures to help pay for the spell's cost, the card rewards aggressive strategies and board presence. Upon its introduction, it became a staple in various formats due to its versatility and efficiency, and the Friday Night Magic printing remains a sought-after piece for players who appreciate its thematic art and distinct border design.
