Stonehoof Chieftain // Stonehoof Chieftain

The Stonehoof Chieftain card, originally featured in the Khans of Tarkir set and later reimagined for the Commander Masters Art Series, serves as a quintessential representation of the Centaur tribe in Magic: The Gathering. Created as a powerful high-mana creature, it was designed to provide a significant board-wide buff, reflecting the raw, trampling strength associated with the Abzan Houses. The Art Series cards, released alongside the Commander Masters expansion, focus specifically on showcasing the game's expansive illustration library in a collectible, frame-less format intended for display rather than standard play.

The illustration for this specific iteration honors the creature's lore as a stalwart protector of the forest realms. By removing the traditional game borders and text boxes, the Art Series allows the intricate details of the creature's weaponry and environment to take center stage. These cards are distributed as promotional items in Collector Boosters, appealing to enthusiasts who appreciate the artistic evolution of the game's iconic creatures over the past decade.
