Stonehorn Dignitary

Stonehorn Dignitary first appeared in the 2011 Magic: The Gathering set Magic 2012, designed to introduce a defensive creature that could disrupt aggressive strategies. The card utilizes a 'comes into play' trigger that forces opponents to skip their combat phase, a mechanic rooted in the tactical control archetypes prevalent in white-aligned decks. Its design reflects a shift in mid-era creature balance, emphasizing utility and tempo control over raw power, and it has since become a staple in casual and Commander formats for players who enjoy stalling combat.

The version presented here, numbered 304, originates from the 2021 Time Spiral Remastered set. This set was curated to celebrate the mechanics and aesthetics of the original Time Spiral block, a period characterized by nostalgia and complex mechanical interactions. The artwork, credited to illustrator Greg Staples, maintains the original depiction of the rhino-like armored sentinel, rendered in a style consistent with the classic fantasy aesthetic that Wizards of the Coast promoted during that era. It was well-received by collectors who appreciate the frame treatment that honors the visual history of the game.
