Storm Cauldron

Storm Cauldron was originally introduced in the Stronghold expansion set in 1998, designed by Mike Elliott as part of a cycle of artifacts centered on the recurring return of land cards to a player's hand. Its mechanical intent was to create a strategic trade-off, forcing players to manage their mana resources carefully while enabling powerful synergies with cards that trigger when lands enter the battlefield.

The artwork for the Sixth Edition printing, created by artist Donato Giancola, maintains the evocative, high-fantasy aesthetic that defined much of the Magic: The Gathering era during the late 1990s. While initially viewed as a niche utility card, it became a staple in Commander formats, where its ability to manipulate land-drop timing and leverage land-fall effects is highly valued by deck builders.
