Where it came from
Storm of Forms was released as part of the New Capenna Commander Promos in 2022, designed to coincide with the Streets of New Capenna expansion for Magic: The Gathering. This card, a reprint of an existing spell, was issued with special promotional art and card frame treatments intended to evoke the Art Deco and 1920s mobster-inspired aesthetic of the set's central city. The artistic direction for the set focused on sharp geometric shapes, opulent gold accents, and a distinctive noir-inspired visual language.
The promotional cycle for New Capenna aimed to immerse players in the world of three-color factions vying for control over a sprawling metropolis. The design of this specific card reflects the collaboration between Wizards of the Coast and illustrators tasked with blending traditional high-fantasy elements with the stylized, luxurious motifs of the Roaring Twenties. Upon its release, these promotional cards were received by the community as desirable collector pieces that offered a stylistic departure from standard set printings.
