Stormcaller's Boon

Stormcaller's Boon was released in 2009 as part of the Alara Reborn expansion for Magic: The Gathering. This set marked the first time in the game's history that every card in the expansion was multicolored, representing the final convergence of the fractured shards of the plane of Alara into a single, unified world. The card was designed to highlight the mechanical theme of blue-red-white mana, known as the Jeskai colors in later sets, by providing a repeatable buff effect that encourages aggressive, spell-based gameplay.

The card was illustrated by Mike Dringenberg, whose distinct, somewhat gothic and expressive style contributed to the aesthetic of the Alara block. His work on this card sought to capture the volatile energy of a storm mage tapping into the confluence of magical ley lines. Upon its release, the card was generally viewed as a niche limited-format utility piece, appreciated by players for its ability to grant flying to creatures and provide a sink for excess mana, though it saw limited competitive play in constructed formats due to its mana cost relative to its impact.
