Stronghold Arena

Stronghold Arena was originally printed as a land card in the 1998 Magic: The Gathering set Stronghold, part of the Rath Cycle. It was designed to reflect the brutal, gladiatorial nature of the Stronghold, a central fortification in the lore where the Phyrexians trained their forces. The original card functioned as a utility land that allowed players to discard cards to strengthen their creatures, a mechanic meant to simulate the cost of gaining power through physical combat.

The version from the Dominaria United Promos, collector number 110s, is a stylized reprint issued to commemorate the return to the plane of Dominaria. These promotional iterations often feature distinct border treatments or art styles intended to celebrate the game's deep history. As part of the Dominaria United release, it serves as a bridge between the classic mechanics of the late 1990s and the modern visual aesthetic of the current era.
