Provenance

Where it came from

Sulfur Falls was originally introduced in the 2011 Innistrad expansion as part of a cycle of dual lands that enter the battlefield untapped if the player controls a basic land of the corresponding types. The card was reimagined for the 2018 Dominaria set, which served as a nostalgic return to the franchise's titular plane. This version was designed to support multi-color decks in the Standard format, providing essential mana fixing that rewards players for building with basic lands.

The artwork for this iteration was commissioned from Cliff Childs, a long-time illustrator for the series. Childs focused on capturing the volatile, elemental energy of the landscape, utilizing a vivid color palette to distinguish the intersection of red and blue mana sources. Upon its release in Dominaria, the card was well-received by the competitive community for its utility in efficient deck construction and its aesthetic adherence to the established visual identity of the plane.
